November is Senior Pet Month and Adopt a Senior Pet!

Bringing our attention on our seniors. Many of your know I, Pet Pal Keli, have a really big soft spot for seniors, animals and human. One person can learn so much from a senior. Since November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month and Senior Pet Month, we will be talking about senior animals this blog post. There are plenty of healthy, active older dogs hoping for a second chance at life. They end up homeless for many reasons, but many share one thing in common. They are overlooked for younger, cuter dogs, because face it…who doesn’t love puppies. They are adorable and they can’t wait to explore the world around them. It can be rewarding to raise a pup into a healthy, strong adult, but it requires a lot of work. There is nothing wrong with adopting a puppy, but there are a lot of great reasons for considering adopting an older dog. They need homes just as badly, and they can make loving, loyal companions.

As you look to adopt a dog, consider the more mature canine residents at your local shelter or foster based rescue. When you choose an adult dog, you skip the craziness of the puppy phase. You'll also be surprised how easily adult dogs can integrate into a new family.

Here are 5 good reasons to consider a Senior Dog!

  1. You ARE Their Hero! You’re fighting for the value and beauty of life at all ages and stages. Less Demanding! Daily walks, subtle playtime, and lots of nuggles and cuddles are in order!
  2. Often already potty trained! Can I get a YES please!
  3. Limited Surprises! You won’t be guessing how big they will get, easier to decide if they will fit into your family. Just to name a few.
  4. Companionship! They have their puppy wiggles out!

BEST FOR LAST!

5.Senior Dogs DO learn New Tricks! Dogs learn at any age, really it’s true!

If you're planning to take days off during the holidays, it's an excellent time to consider adopting one and making the new family addition truly special. The time-off will allow you to bond and help your new bestie become part of your family's routines.

If you’re going to bring home a new dog, it’s important to educate yourself so you can give the dog time to adjust to their new surroundings and family. Observe your new dog to get familiar with their personality, likes, and dislikes and to see how your dog is communicating with you.

A kind, understanding attitude helps them make the adjustment with ease and comfort. The privilege of loving an older dog can make every day special.

Cats are making a name for themselves. These hot-shot superstars in funny cat videos, memes, reels, and TikTok videos. So why not give them a special month of glory where we can celebrate their stubbornness, independence, and selective self-sustainable being. February is for the cats, and more specifically it's for their health, it is called National Cat Health Month." Pet Pals encourages every cat parent to spend the month with extra focus on their cat's physical and emotional well-being, and research signs of unhealthy behavior or illness. Pet Pals has compiled 3 tips to help ensure your furry cat friend stays in tip-top shape. 1. Litter boxes should be in a well-lit, quiet, and ventilated room of the house that's easily accessible to your kitty. It should not be in a dark, noisy place because he may choose not to use it. You should also clean it once a day. It's a good way to notice changes that may be a sign of health issues. 2. Even though cats spend approximately five hours a day grooming themselves, they still need our help to stay happy and healthy. Depending on the length of your kitty's hair, you'll want to make brushing part of your weekly or daily routine. 3. Yes. Feline pet parents also need to get their kitties used to nail trims and teeth cleanings. Slowly get them used to have their paws and nails touched. Do the same with their teeth and gums. An excellent way to start with dental health is by having them taste kitty toothpaste. Extend ‘agape’ love to your kitty friend. As Albert Schweitzer once said, “There are two means of refuge from the misery of life – music and cats.” Pet Pals - Pet care, dog walking, and dog mentor experts in the Sioux Empire committed to making people and pets' lives easier, healthier, and happier.
