Show your pet love on this National Love Your Pet Day!

There are many ways to love your pet. Regardless of the way or ways you choose, happy love your pet day!..and in the spirit of the day, here are some enriched ways to love your pet.

Lean On Each Other - Even though most dogs aren’t the biggest fans of hugs, people often fight a losing battle again the urge to give a loving squeeze. After all, hugging is one of the most natural ways for humans to show affection. However, for many of our canine companions, a hug is an unwelcome or even threatening experience. On the other hand, has your dog ever pressed up against your legs or leaned into you while you were sitting together? This is one way that dogs seek affection – think of it as a doggie hug. “Hug” him back by doing the same thing.

Pet Time - Setting aside time every day to provide attention and bonding brings lots of benefits. According to multiple studies, 10 minutes a day can go a long way toward strengthening the relationship with your pet. And this is not just for them as studies have shown that petting a dog or cat can lower stress, improve heart health, and even elevates your mood.

Play more games - Playing games is an effective stress reliever for you and provides your pets with both mental and physical benefits. To keep your pet from getting bored, find a few activities that you enjoy playing with each other such as fetch, hide-and-seek, or scent games. Check out Pet Pals Enrichment Series for great game ideas.

Paw it forward - One of the best ways you can show your love for your pet is to spread it around to others. There are millions of wonderful animals waiting for their forever homes in shelters and rescues around the country. Volunteering at a shelter walking dogs or spending quality time with cats is a great way to pay it forward.

Walk and play - Daily activity is good for your pet’s body and brain just like us humans. Additionally, burning of that energy in a constructive way promotes good behavior. So dedicate time every day to a walk or playing fetch with the family pooch either by you or your fave Pet Pal!

Cats are making a name for themselves. These hot-shot superstars in funny cat videos, memes, reels, and TikTok videos. So why not give them a special month of glory where we can celebrate their stubbornness, independence, and selective self-sustainable being. February is for the cats, and more specifically it's for their health, it is called National Cat Health Month." Pet Pals encourages every cat parent to spend the month with extra focus on their cat's physical and emotional well-being, and research signs of unhealthy behavior or illness. Pet Pals has compiled 3 tips to help ensure your furry cat friend stays in tip-top shape. 1. Litter boxes should be in a well-lit, quiet, and ventilated room of the house that's easily accessible to your kitty. It should not be in a dark, noisy place because he may choose not to use it. You should also clean it once a day. It's a good way to notice changes that may be a sign of health issues. 2. Even though cats spend approximately five hours a day grooming themselves, they still need our help to stay happy and healthy. Depending on the length of your kitty's hair, you'll want to make brushing part of your weekly or daily routine. 3. Yes. Feline pet parents also need to get their kitties used to nail trims and teeth cleanings. Slowly get them used to have their paws and nails touched. Do the same with their teeth and gums. An excellent way to start with dental health is by having them taste kitty toothpaste. Extend ‘agape’ love to your kitty friend. As Albert Schweitzer once said, “There are two means of refuge from the misery of life – music and cats.” Pet Pals - Pet care, dog walking, and dog mentor experts in the Sioux Empire committed to making people and pets' lives easier, healthier, and happier.
