Pet Pals is Fear Free Certified!

Pet Pals LLC • May 04, 2020

Pet Pals is now certified in Fear Free as an added benefit to you and your pet kid(s) in order to reduce the negative effects that stress has on your pets and the corresponding impact that can have on you and your family.

In his book The Light in the Heart, Roy Bennett states; “There are five important things for living a successful and fulfilling life: never stop dreaming, never stop believing, never give up, never stop trying, and never stop learning.” Rest assured friends that dreaming, believing, commitment to continue, and effort to be the best are as strong as ever. This environment cannot shake that and more importantly; Pet Pals remains here and strong for you and our Pet Community! In fact and if anything, this Pandemic has allowed for extra dedicated time toward that “never stop learning”! In addition to Pet Pals’ ever expanding experience, we never stop formal education. For example, in recent years, Pet Pals has completed hundreds of class hours on Cat and Kitten Care, Dog Walking, Senior Pet Care, and Pet First Aid just to name a few. Most recently,🙋‍♀️ I’m proud to announce Pet Pals is now a Fear Free Certified service provider!

The Fear Free treatment of pets, founded by “America’s Veterinarian,” Dr. Marty Becker, and developed by hundreds of experts in pet behavior, medicine, and handling was a natural fit into Pet Pals’ beliefs and already ongoing treatment of Pets! In fact, when you see Fear Free’s mission “to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them”, you might immediately think of Pet Pals’ very own Pet Mentorship Program as it was built on very similar concepts. For example, in order to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) in pets, we must understand how our pets communicate signs of FAS to us. Common signs of FAS in a dog lincude: a tense face, lips drawn back, tail down, body lowered, dilated pupils, snarling or growling. Common signs of FAS in a cat are tucked tail, crouched posture, hissing, pupils dilated, and ears pinned down to the side. Fear Free certification includes not only recognizing the signs, but also knowing how to react or not react to them. And then understanding how to identify and handle the stressors that cause FAS. A stressor can be any experience, environment, an inanimate or living object that disrupts the body’s normal state of functioning. Examples of stressors to pets include noise, odor, pain, disease, and unfamiliar people. This is just the tip of the Fear Free iceberg.

Pet Pals is now certified in Fear Free as an added benefit to you and your pet kid(s) in order to reduce the negative effects that stress has on your pets and the corresponding impact that can have on you and your family. This can increase your pet’s health, wellbeing, and longevity. Moreover, it further strengthens Pet Pals’ ability to customize our services to do what works for you, your family, and your dog(s) in order to meet your specific needs.

Cats are making a name for themselves. These hot-shot superstars in funny cat videos, memes, reels, and TikTok videos. So why not give them a special month of glory where we can celebrate their stubbornness, independence, and selective self-sustainable being. February is for the cats, and more specifically it's for their health, it is called National Cat Health Month." Pet Pals encourages every cat parent to spend the month with extra focus on their cat's physical and emotional well-being, and research signs of unhealthy behavior or illness. Pet Pals has compiled 3 tips to help ensure your furry cat friend stays in tip-top shape. 1. Litter boxes should be in a well-lit, quiet, and ventilated room of the house that's easily accessible to your kitty. It should not be in a dark, noisy place because he may choose not to use it. You should also clean it once a day. It's a good way to notice changes that may be a sign of health issues. 2. Even though cats spend approximately five hours a day grooming themselves, they still need our help to stay happy and healthy. Depending on the length of your kitty's hair, you'll want to make brushing part of your weekly or daily routine. 3. Yes. Feline pet parents also need to get their kitties used to nail trims and teeth cleanings. Slowly get them used to have their paws and nails touched. Do the same with their teeth and gums. An excellent way to start with dental health is by having them taste kitty toothpaste. Extend ‘agape’ love to your kitty friend. As Albert Schweitzer once said, “There are two means of refuge from the misery of life – music and cats.” Pet Pals - Pet care, dog walking, and dog mentor experts in the Sioux Empire committed to making people and pets' lives easier, healthier, and happier. Your Pet Will Thank You! Happy National Cat Health Month! Brag about you cat in the comments, pictures and/or video encouraged!
